Fighting Your Goliath

Kaleb Fontenot, Reporter

We have all heard the story of David and Goliath, but what most people do not know is that David was the youngest of 8 sons and his primary job was to tend to the sheep of the family while his older brothers were soldiers in the Israelites army. As the story goes, Goliath taunted the Israelities for 40 days challenging all Israelites to a head to head fight, but they were all terrified of him. Scripture tells us that Goliath was 9 feet 9 inches tall and he wore a bronze helmet and armor that weighed 125 pounds. On the other hand, David wasn’t the biggest and bravest. Actually he was so small that scripture tells us he couldn’t even wear the army gear King Saul gave him because he couldn’t walk in it. Instead he took his staff and slingshot with him to fight Goliath. In 1 Samuel 17 David said to Goliath: “You come against me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of Armies, the God of the ranks of Israel.” David knew he was not fighting alone, and through his complete faith and trust in the Lord he would go on to defeat Goliath with just a rock and slingshot. We all have moments where we feel like we are up against a Goliath in our lives. Maybe you feel like you are never good enough, or you feel that the stress in your life is too much to bear. Well I am here to tell you that no matter your insecurities that with God you can defeat any Goliath in your life!
