National Seminar Come to Central Private School

This summer Mrs. Penny Kinchen of Central Private School will facilitate the seminar, “Looking Toward the Future: Bringing Lessons of the Holocaust to the Gulf South.” The seminar will take place July 5-11 at Central Private School.

The purpose of the seminar is to give educators at all levels a deeper understanding of the Holocaust. Attendees will be challenged to think about ways to promote human rights and social justice in their classrooms.

A site visit to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans is included.  Attendees will also attend a Shabbat service at a local synagogue and hear testimony from several Holocaust survivors.

Mrs. Kinchen has taught the Holocaust for many years and is passionate about her students understanding of the event. She is dedicated to creating an environment of anti-bullying and encouraging students to become upstanders rather than bystanders.

The seminar is free to educators and includes books, teaching materials and most meals.  Subsidized accommodations for out-of-town attendees is available. Interested teachers are encouraged to apply at www.toli.us/satellite-program/louisiana/

Those attending are eligible for professional development credit.  For additional information, please contact Penny Kinchen at [email protected]   The seminar is sponsored by the Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights.
