The Calm in the Storm

Sadie Fontenot, Editor

“When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Silence! Be still!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, ‘Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?’” -Mark 4:39-40

We all have times in our lives when we feel like the storms of life are too much for us to handle. Even the disciples had moments of doubt and fear as they walked alongside Jesus. Jesus told his disciples to get on board and cross the lake with Him. As they headed out, a big storm covered their area, flooding the boat with water. In a panic, thinking that they were going to sink, the disciples cried out to Jesus. Jesus stood up to the wind and waves and said, “Silence! Be still!” (Mark 4:39) and nature obeyed His command.

In life, we all will face storms. Your ship will rock, fill with water, or get knocked off course. It is easy to get discouraged and lose faith when things do not go smoothly. Just like the disciples, we often find ourselves crying out to God when the storms roll in and we start to lose hope. This is when you need to look to Jesus and not to fear because He is with you. You should have faith because he will help you ride out the storm. Never lose hope but  stay calm because he has a plan for you. Jesus is our peace in the storm and a light in the darkness. Allow Him to be the calm in your storms. All it takes is a little bit of faith.
