This past season the Redhawks baseball team got off to an exciting start competing in a jamboree at Live Oak High School and a tournament in Sulphur, Louisiana. They played only 7 games before the global pandemic cut their season short. When asked how the coronavirus affected this past season, head baseball coach Seth Stevens said,” The coronavirus affected every team, but it was devastating to our seniors who were barely able to showcase their talent.” Several seniors who were considering college baseball did not have the same opportunities to show scouts their talents. The coronavirus made moving forward difficult but that did not stop the team from having workouts and practices over the summer.
The team practiced as much as possible this summer before heading to Pearl River Community College for a tournament. Coach Stevens was optimistic about the tournament and said,” We competed well. It was a great experience to be able to play on Pearl River’s field.”
The tournament was beneficial ; it helped the players improve both individually and as a team The tournament especially helped the younger players get more experience in preparation for the upcoming season.
The baseball team has high hopes going into the 2021 season as this will be the first season the Redhawks will be able to go to the playoffs after joining the LHSAA. Going into his second season, Coach Stevens said,” I don’t think the coronavirus will affect the season much, if at all. We will continue to work hard and prepare to have a good season.”
