The Boys of Fall

Sadie Fontenot, Reporter

COVID-19 could not stop our Redhawks from playing football. Although summer practice and workouts looked a little different this year because of the social distancing mandate, the boys still worked hard to get ready for this year’s season. After entering phase 3 of the pandemic mandate in August, the football players were finally able to practice with full pads and tackle drills. They were required to wear masks when on the sidelines during the games and each player had to provide their own water to eliminate spreading germs. A typical 10 game season was cut short to 8 games this year because of the CoronaVirus, but anything was better than nothing! Our Redhawk football team had their season opening game on October 2nd against Catholic High Pointe Coupee. The boys had a good game, but fell short. They continued to work hard during practice to improve. All the hard work paid off when the Redhawks beat Ascension Christian at the Homecoming game on October 23rd. The game was delayed due to rain and lightning about halfway through the 2nd quarter. Despite the muddy and slippery field, the boys prevailed and earned a victory. The last game of the season is scheduled for November 20th against Thrive Academy. The players are hoping to finish the season well to guarantee a seed in the playoffs. Come out and support the 2020 Redhawk football team before it is too late!
