Every year during the week of Halloween, Central Private holds a “Thriller” pep rally. This tradition began in October,  1993, and was started by Jane Bateman, a former varsity cheer coach. That year the homecoming theme was Eerie Vibrations, a Halloween theme, so they performed “Thriller” at the homecoming pep rally. This year’s “Thriller” pep rally was held on Thursday the 31st, the day of Halloween. The pep rally tradition consists of cheerleaders and dancers getting together and performing a dance to the song “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.

This tradition, however, has been slightly altered. Since there is no dance team this year, the cheerleaders invited the dancers from last year’s team to participate in the dance. The cheerleaders also invited Central Private’s majorette, Sarah Israel, to perform with them, as well. The girls practiced after school, and before school to perfect the dance before the  performance.

At the pep rally, the girls dress in zombie costumes. They have torn dresses and messy hair and crazy makeup. After the girls performed “Thriller,” the cheerleaders performed their band dance, dressed as zombies. A big thanks to Mrs. Christina, the varsity cheer coach, for organizing and overseeing practice for this year’s “Thriller” pep rally. Everyone enjoyed  the performance!
